Assessment

Initial assessments are carried out during the first appointment for both adults and children. Clinical assessments are an integral part of starting therapy and help to determine the client's needs, and if the therapy services being offered will be helpful.

  • I can provide a free 15 minute initial telephone consultation

  • Further telephone consultations following on from starting therapy, or initial contact will be charged at a standard session rate fee. i.e. If we speak for 30 minutes, this will be worked out based on a 50 minute counselling session fee.

  • Please note; Video and telephone therapy is NOT suitable for health emergencies or crisis intervention.

Children

Assessments for children will need to be carried out initially with parents/guardians prior to commencing therapy sessions and are charged at the rate of $145 per in-person assessment and $145 via telehealth. Written consent is required from parents/guardians prior to children starting therapy.  If parents/guardians are separated or divorced, written consent is required from both parents before children can commence therapy.

Considerations for Therapy

There might be times when a therapist will need to contact other professionals that are involved in the client's care such as their GP, and this would be done so with the client's consent.

It is possible that both the therapist and the client feel the therapy approach might not be the best at meeting the client's needs. If this occurs the client and therapist could look at other options and recommendations. Therapy requires commitment, engagement and regular attendance of sessions if a client is going to benefit from the process. A "good fit" between client and therapist is also key in creating the therapeutic alliance; the working relationship between therapist and client.

Confidentiality and Safeguarding

All therapy sessions are highly confidential and carried out within strict professional boundaries, protecting the privacy and rights of the client. All records and information shared during these sessions are between client and therapist, and the therapist's clinical supervisor.

Art Psychotherapists, Registered Clinical Counsellors and BWRT® Practitioners are legally required to receive clinical supervision to ensure that the work is of a high standard and any safeguarding issues are dealt with quickly. Kerry adheres to a strict code of ethics, as outlined by the professional bodies she is registered with. However, there might be times when exceptions to confidentiality are made.

These times might include:

• When there is risk to the client or others

• A child who is in need of protection

• A legal request that is made for confidential materials to be submitted
